All
buildings in Bhutan, including temples, stores and residences, are
constructed using the same basic design elements, such as beam-shaped
cross-sections and floral patterns of transoms, flower head-shaped
moldings on the wooden window frames, surrounding floral patterns,
and so on. For this reason, we cannot know if a building is a store
or something else just from the appearance.
Nonetheless, it is easy to see that the building in this picture is
a real store because athletic shoes are displayed in each of the windows.
The sneakers are displayed in such an elegant setting where we’d expect
to find a sutra or other historical relics. Music tapes and CDs are
displayed in the leftmost window. What an interesting mismatch!
