“Erai yaccha, erai yaccha, yoiyoi yoiyoi…” (Chants
sung by dancers).
On July 24, just before the day of Awa-odori dance on August 12,
“My Town, Summer Festival” was held in Tokushima city, integrating
major shopping streets.
Attractions included T-shirt art exhibition by primary school children, pet-bottle
race competition, street entertainer, charity sales, etc. A festive spirit enveloped
the whole of the “Shinmachigawa river area” which was filled with excitement.
Traditional local dances, such as Yosakoi Naruko Odori, Okinawa Eisa, and Awa
Odori brought the festival to a climax. As soon as darkness fell, an LED art
contest by junior high school students got underway. Monuments of light reflected
upon the water, while Tokushima Wadaiko Japanese drums were played, and so on…
It was a delightful and steaming hot day of a summer festival with a “Symphony
of water, light and sound.”
“Yattosa, yattosa.” (chant)
